F*ck Yeah LGBT

Bringing you the news and stories of the community

My university held its 3rd annual “Gay? Fine by me” parade this past weekend. I’m the one holding the sign “We are the Aggies, the Aggies are we.” - a line from our Alma Mater. Texas A&M is deeply rooted in many many traditions (Reveille our mascot, the Century Tree, the Aggie Ring, “Whoop!” - the list is endless) and we have 6 core values including “Respect.” Hate is not an Aggie Value, but it sure feels like tradition sometimes. With 50,000 students on campus, most of whom are straight Christians, the LGBT community often gets pushed aside. Spit on. We recently fought a bill that would allow people to opt out of funding the GLBT Resource Center - one of the only safe spaces we have on campus. The bill was evenutally vetoed, but the sting of “we don’t want you here” still stays. This march was a truly memorable event for me. It was our way of saying “We’re here, we’re queer, and we are a part of the Aggie Family and you cannot deny us.”

I went to church with my family tonight and the pastor said something that I think every Christian should hear

Pastor:
Now, according to a few passages in the bible, homosexuality is a sin.
Couple of older males in the audience:
Amen!
Pastor:
Now, wait, I'm not finished.
Pastor:
You know what else the bible defines as a sin? Divorce.
-uncomfortable silence-
Pastor:
There are countless passages that talk about how divorce is wrong, and that there are consequences to getting a divorce, such as the wife should be stoned.
Pastor:
Yet, I witnessed a divorce just this morning. And I gotta tell you, it was heartbreaking, but I definitely didn't attempt to throw rocks at the wife, even though she was the one who filed for divorce.
Pastor:
We choose to overlook the consequences of divorce because time has proven that they're inhumane and cruel.
Pastor:
The bible doesn't say anything about the consequences of a homosexual lifestyle. Yet, we seem to be spearheading a campaign to ruin the lives of people we don't even know.
-the pastor shifts a few notes around-
Pastor:
The bible states to love thy neighbor. That's it. There are no other rules or restrictions to that passage.
Pastor:
So, we as a church family have to support equality with a smile on our face. THAT is the true Christian way.

Here it is! I’m not 100% sure if I like how it came out… it almost seems a bit too cutesy for the subject. Maybe I just like drawing cute clothes and bright colours too much!
This is for a contest with the Canadian Human Rights Agencies for their conference in May. All the Advanced Illustration students and Design students had to enter as part of their final. Kinda pissed that they required us to print it off at 24 x 36…. which I think is way too big and expensive ($50!!) for most students and their budget. We don’t even get to keep the posters. And the top prize is only $200. I feel kinda ripped off. :/
EDIT: A couple of people have sent me notes saying that “Transgendered” is incorrect terminology. I apologize, I kind of added the text last minute, and should have known better. I’ve uploaded a fixed version. :)

This poster is a good reminder that pronouns aren’t “preferred”. They’re NECESSARY.

This is what a REAL rape prevention campaign looks like

All the awards.

DO ME A HUGE FAVOR AND REBLOG THIS!

This is perfection in a campaign

I love how they included a situation where a guy could’ve gotten raped. People don’t seem to realize that males get raped too. It’s less common, but it happens. That is what sets this campaign apart from others.
