We Give a Damn (About Equality)
- Cyndi Lauper’s project to engage and inspire all to be a part of the LGBTQ road to equality. Loads of information regarding all impacting issues, and personal stories regarding how LGBTQ people have been discriminated against.
- Freedom to Marry has tons of information about why marriage matters to the LGBTQ community and one of the best pages to find out about the freedom to marry in each state.
GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network)
- GLSEN is all about safe schools. They work to create a positive environment everywhere by educating teachers and students. They also sponsor Day of Silence, Think B4 You Speak, GSA’s and much much more.
- This is a movement towards ending homophobic slurs and language, especially the use of the term “That’s so gay!” They have lots of information on how this affects LGBT youth and fun videos on ways to stop people from saying things are “so gay!”
- A visible movement of marriage equality; Wearing a white knot to show that everyone should have the right to tie the knot. Good information about why marriage matters and US and world maps about marriage equality.
- The Day of Silence brings together thousands of students to take a vow of silence to bring attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. By giving your voice for the day, you are lending your voice to those who don’t have one; those who are silenced by anti-LGBT language, slurs, and actions.
- Beyond Ex-Gay is a community and resource for those who have survived ex-gay experiences. It is a healing process for those who have been told that their sexual orientation or gender identity was wrong, immoral, or in need of change. This often brings the victims in inner turmoil, confusion, shame, self-abuse or suicide.
- Updating every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Slap Upside The Head brings stories (and fun drawings) of LGBT news, mostly what’s going on in Canada, but sometimes worldwide.
- The Trevor Project is the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention among LGBTQ youth. They have a hotline open 24 hours a day nationwide.
- A week of activities designed to encourage students to be allies against anti-LGBT language, bullying and harassment.
- This link goes to the youtube videos although they also have a website. They represent both ‘Side A’ and ‘Side B’ gay Christians, the former being gay Christians who believe God blesses gay relationships and the latter believing that God has called them to celibacy. They answer all the tough questions and do a fantastic job at it too.
AVEN (The Asexual Visibility and Education Network)
- If you have any questions about asexuality, AVEN definitely has the answers. It has a great overview, a few FAQs, and a lot of people there to help, both professionals and pen pals.
- This is a collaboration project of videos meant to speak out to suicidal LGBT youth to show them what their lives can be like in the future. Many famous celebrities such as Chris Colfer, Hillary Clinton, Obama, Adam Lambert, Zachary Quinto, and Tim Gunn have contributed to this project.
